On the evening of 26/8, the Vietnam national team drew with Thailand in the second leg of the final, securing the ASEAN Cup 2026 championship. Capitalizing on the event's widespread public appeal, several banks launched promotions to attract deposits.
VPBank is offering an additional 2,6% interest rate for 26,000 savings accounts when customers use the code CT260, symbolizing the Vietnam national team's 26-match unbeaten streak.
This special offer is valid on 27 and 28/8, and is 0,1 percentage point higher than the current promotion the bank applies to all new customers depositing via its application.
Additionally, VPBank is giving away 1,000 vouchers, each worth 300,000 dong, to individuals who interact with the bank's social media posts between 26 and 31/8.

Digital bank Vikki also launched the "Vikkibong vang" voucher code for deposits of 5 million dong or more, valid until 31/10, which adds 1,68% to the listed interest rate. This is one of three voucher codes the bank currently uses to attract depositors. The highest bonus currently offered is 2,6% for deposits starting from 100 million dong.
Before the second leg's kick-off, Scombank announced an additional interest rate of over 2% for savings customers whose names matched a Vietnamese player who scored in the match. This program applied to over-the-counter deposits from 27/8 to 9/9. However, no players from the national team scored in the second leg.
Beyond event-based promotions, banks are consistently launching deposit incentives amidst fierce competition for capital.
Instead of solely adjusting listed interest rate schedules, many banks have recently added short-term interest bonuses. Some branches are also applying negotiated rates that are 2-3% higher than listed rates for deposits as low as a few hundred million dong.
