Online scam tactics are becoming increasingly sophisticated, meaning unusual signs can appear at various points during the online shopping journey. Beyond protective measures from the platform, users must proactively verify information and secure their accounts.
The Ministry of Public Security reported approximately two million cyberattack alerts in the first half of 2026, with nearly 50% involving artificial intelligence (AI). AI and deepfake technology can be used to create fake images, videos, or voices to impersonate relatives or associates of victims, thereby building trust and urging money transfers.
Order through official channels
Consumers need to select the correct shopping channel from the outset to limit risks during ordering and payment. It is essential to access the platform's official application or website and check details such as the domain name, developer information, and business registration before logging in or conducting any transactions.
For Shopee, users should shop and pay on the official Shopee app, developed by Shopee Company Limited. The official website, "shopee.vn", is also the correct address for users to access and find products on the platform.
Shopee advises users not to access, log in, provide personal information, make payments, or scan QR codes via unofficial applications, websites, or those showing signs of impersonation.

After accessing the correct platform, users can verify order information and the total amount due. Shopee warns that each person only needs to pay the "total payment" amount displayed on the payment or order details page.
Shopee does not request or collect any fees beyond the "total payment" amount shown in the app. Therefore, buyers must be vigilant against requests for additional payments from sellers, delivery personnel, or other individuals, citing reasons such as packaging fees, incidental charges, or demands for extra money to expedite delivery time.
In addition to checking the payment amount, users must secure their passwords, one-time passwords (OTPs), bank card card verification values (CVVs), ShopeePay account personal identification numbers (PINs), transaction passwords, and login information for banks, e-wallets, or social media accounts.
Shopee states that the platform does not proactively ask users for this sensitive information via SMS messages or online messaging applications. Users should also store security information safely, avoiding providing it on unknown applications or websites.
Verify information upon receipt
Upon receiving goods, users should continue to cross-reference order information. For cash-on-delivery orders, the priority is to verify the amount to be paid, order details, and the tracking number on the app before making payment.
Calls or messages requesting pre-payment, additional charges, or transactions outside Shopee are also red flags that require attention.

When receiving an unusual request, such as additional fees or an urgent transfer, users should stop the transaction, re-check the information on the app, and contact Shopee's official support channel for verification.
Buyers should not provide account information, OTPs, or make payments based on instructions from suspicious individuals or unofficial platforms.

Report violations
Shopee offers a feature for users to report sellers showing signs of violations, including fraudulent behavior or attempts to conduct transactions outside the platform. The first step is to select the three-dot icon at the top right of the seller's page, then choose "report this user", providing the reason and relevant evidence.
For assistance, users can contact Shopee customer service through the "chat with Shopee" option in the "me" section of the app.
Safe online shopping depends on both platform controls and how users handle information. Accessing the correct application, checking orders, securing accounts, verifying unusual requests, and reporting violations are steps that help reduce transaction risks.
