Vietconduit recently achieved UL Listed-UL 1242 certification for its intermediate metal conduit (IMC) steel electrical conduit line from Underwriters Laboratories (UL). This recognition, publicly available on the global UL Product iQ system with file code E555652, allows investors, consultants, and contractors to verify product information. The journey began a few years ago when the company started researching the technical requirements of the UL 1242 standard. This presented significant challenges, not only in meeting technical specifications but also in strictly controlling the entire production process.
Achieving this certification demanded meticulous control from raw material input, dimensions, and wall thickness to surface quality and final product inspection. Vietconduit invested in advanced technology and refined its manufacturing processes to meet these stringent criteria.

The UL Listed-UL 1242 certification is crucial for Vietconduit's products to be considered for electrical systems that adhere to US standards. The National Electrical Code (NEC), specifically Article 342 within NFPA 70, outlines precise requirements for the use and installation of intermediate metal conduit (IMC) in electrical systems. Nguyen Thi Thuy Hang, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Vietconduit, explained that this product development was driven by the practical demands of projects requiring high material standards. Many foreign-invested construction projects or those overseen by international consultants require specific technical and material standards from the outset to ensure consistency, safety, and project compliance.
Previously, when domestic supply could not meet these rigorous requirements, contractors had to rely on imported goods. This often led to extended shipping times, increased logistics costs, and more complex supply chain planning.
"This motivated Vietconduit to dedicate resources to developing international standard lines, including IMC conduit with UL Listed-UL 1242 and electrical metallic tubing (EMT) steel conduit with UL Listed-UL 797 certification," Ms. Hang stated.
To satisfy Underwriters Laboratories, a global electrical safety certification organization, Vietconduit implemented strict control over its entire production process, from raw materials to finished products. This included establishing a comprehensive quality management system to ensure consistency across all batches.

The company standardized its forming, surface treatment, and product inspection stages. These processes are complemented by regular inspections, sampling, and evaluations as mandated by the certification body. This approach ensures that the products consistently meet certified requirements, not just at the time of assessment.
"Manufacturing international standard IMC conduit in Vietnam provides contractors with a valuable domestic alternative to imported products," a company representative noted. This local supply helps shorten delivery times, enhances scheduling flexibility, and facilitates smoother communication and technical issue resolution during project implementation.

This progressive standardization of production to international benchmarks, driven by market demand, demonstrates Vietnamese enterprises' growing capacity to meet the increasingly high demands of both domestic and international projects.
"This strategy also broadens opportunities for 'Made in Vietnam' mechanical and electrical (M&E) products to participate in projects with stringent technical and standard requirements, while establishing a foundation for gradual entry into international markets," a Vietconduit representative added.
