The project has a total investment of 217 million euros (97 million euros for phase two), with a capacity of over 30 billion cartons per year and 15 new packaging formats. It will serve key markets in the region: Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Australia, and New Zealand.
Notably, over 55% of the output will supply the domestic market, contributing to greater self-sufficiency for Vietnam's packaging and food and beverage (F&B) industry.
Bui Minh Thanh, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee (UBND), said Tetra Pak's continued investment in Vietnam strengthens the bond between foreign direct investment (FDI) enterprises and the country's development, particularly in the food sector and technological innovation.
"This is also a positive signal as Vietnam and Sweden upgrade their strategic partnership in science, technology, and innovation," Thanh said.
According to Thanh, Tetra Pak has been present in Vietnam for 30 years, with an initial investment of 120 million euros. This 97 million euro expansion project in Binh Duong demonstrates confidence in Vietnam's investment environment. It also aligns with the national green growth strategy, solid waste management, and climate change response until 2050.
Operational since 2019, the Tetra Pak Binh Duong factory currently employs over 350 people. It is one of the first factories in Vietnam to achieve LEED Version 4 Gold certification, a global green building standard. The factory applies world-class manufacturing systems, integrating artificial intelligence (AI) in quality control and highly automated operations.
