"This is a strategic move to support our customers' growth and aligns with Maersk's integrated logistics vision," said Bob Livingston, director of ground transportation, in a press release issued on 28/1.
The Fontana center expands Maersk's network of over 65 ground transportation facilities across North America, which includes locations in major California cities such as Los Angeles and San Francisco. This expansion enables the company to simplify logistics chains through a single point of contact from origin to destination.
According to a group representative, the new facility will shorten cargo turnaround times by up to 5 hours, while also accelerating inter-regional and interstate connections for shippers. The Fontana center also provides customers access to Maersk’s existing logistics assets in the Inland Empire, thereby expanding warehousing and distribution services.
Despite a prolonged downturn in the freight market, many logistics companies continue to invest in expanding their networks, anticipating market recovery. Recently, companies like Estes Express Lines, Knight-Swift Transportation Holdings, and A. Duie Pyle have all increased the number of dock doors at their respective centers.
Webb Estes, president and chief operating officer of Estes, noted that the company's network of 13,200 doors has grown by 32% compared to five years ago. "Every new center brings additional capacity, reliability, and opportunities for both employees and customers," he stated.
