Many banks commit capital to major Hanoi projects

Leading state-owned banks, including Vietcombank, Agribank, BIDV, and VietinBank, alongside several private banks, are financing major infrastructure and urban development projects in Hanoi.

Numerous banks and businesses have recently signed agreements to provide funding and arrange financing for key projects in the capital during the 2026-2030 period.

Specifically, Techcombank and TPBank have signed agreements with Vinhomes concerning the Hanoi International Sports Urban Area Project.

MB and BIDV are partnering with Handico. MB will finance the Bac Thang Long Urban City multi-purpose urban area, while BIDV aims to fund Handico's projects throughout the 2026-2030 period.

Agribank has signed an agreement with Kinh doanh va Xay dung nha for a mixed-use complex encompassing offices, a hotel, a commercial center, and residential housing at 94 Lo Duc, Hai Ba Trung ward. Meanwhile, VietinBank Thanh An has partnered with Pacific Corporation to finance their projects and business plans for 2026-2030.

In the transportation sector, Vietcombank Hanoi and Tong cong ty Van tai Ha Noi (Transerco) are collaborating on vehicle investment as part of a plan to accelerate the transition to electric buses.

Additionally, NCB has signed a cooperation agreement with Bac Ha Noi Infrastructure and Urban Investment Co., Ltd. to develop a road connecting Gia Binh airport with the capital. NCB expects to provide a minimum credit line of 6.800 billion VND through the end of 2027. The bank is also working with other regulatory bodies and credit institutions to meet the project's anticipated capital requirement of 17.000 billion VND.

MSB recently signed a memorandum of understanding with Green Tech City for the Hanoi Green Tech City Urban Area Project. KienlongBank also has a framework contract with Fulland for a mixed-use commercial building on lot TM13, Phu Thuong ward.

According to the State Bank of Vietnam, Area 1, by the end of June this year, 13 credit institutions had accessed and financed 29 major and important projects in Hanoi. The total credit committed by banks for these projects by the end of Q2 was over 63.000 billion VND. Actual disbursement reached nearly 15.000 billion VND, which is approximately one-fourth of the committed amount. Medium and long-term capital accounted for over 65% of this.

Nguyen Thi Hoa, Director of the State Bank of Vietnam, Area 1, noted that despite banks' proactive engagement in large projects, the committed and actual disbursed amounts remain modest. One reason is that capital mobilization has not kept pace with credit growth, while infrastructure and urban projects typically require substantial medium and long-term capital.
