Under the agreement, both parties will collaborate on developing the airport ecosystem invested in by Sun Group in Vietnam, including Phu Quoc, Van Don, Phan Thiet, and future airport projects. The cooperation focuses on operations, infrastructure development, non-aeronautical services, duty-free retail, and commercial exploitation at the airports.
The two entities will also explore opening new flight routes connecting Phu Quoc with airports operated by GMR Group to promote tourism and trade between the two nations.

GMR Group has more than 20 years of experience in aviation infrastructure development, currently managing and operating several airports in India, Indonesia, Philippines, and Greece. These include Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi, one of the world's busiest airports. The total passenger capacity of the airports developed by the group reaches approximately 190 million passengers annually.
Sun Group is expanding its investment in aviation infrastructure. The conglomerate has taken over the operation of Phu Quoc International Airport under a "destination airport" model and is developing civil aviation facilities at Phan Thiet Airport.
According to a company representative, the partnership with GMR Group is expected to enhance operational standards, services, and exploitation efficiency at airports invested in by Sun Group, simultaneously increasing the competitiveness of Vietnamese aviation in the region.
Also during the event, Sun PhuQuoc Airways announced the appointment of Minar Group, an Indian travel agency, as its general agent in the Indian market. According to the airline's representative, this cooperation aims to expand the distribution system and prepare for direct flights connecting Phu Quoc with destinations in India in 2026.

In 2025, bilateral trade turnover reached USD 16,46 billion, nearly triple the figure from 2015. India is currently among Vietnam's top 10 largest trade partners. Two-way investment continues to expand with nearly 500 projects, and there remains significant potential for the two countries to achieve breakthrough cooperation.
A Sun Group representative stated that the strategic partnership with a leading Indian aviation operator is expected to lay the foundation for deeper cultural, economic, and tourism ties between Vietnam and India. This will contribute to creating a new "path" for Vietnam in general, and Phu Quoc in particular, to become an attractive regional destination and hub.
