TotalEnergies expands energy cooperation in Vietnam

TotalEnergies signs two memoranda of understanding with PV GAS and T&T Group, expanding cooperation in liquefied natural gas, renewable energy, liquefied petroleum gas, and the research and development of the Long Son LNG-to-power plant.

The two agreements were signed in Paris on 10/9 during the Vietnam - France Leaders' Forum, held as part of the official visit to France by General Secretary and State President To Lam. The event was attended by high-level leaders from both nations, as Vietnam and France continue to broaden cooperation in energy, infrastructure, and green transition.

These agreements aim to strengthen long-term cooperation between TotalEnergies and energy companies in Vietnam, while also expanding the scope of collaboration across various sectors, from gas and electricity to renewable energy. The first memorandum of understanding was signed by TotalEnergies with Petrovietnam Gas Corporation (PV GAS). This agreement establishes a framework for the two parties to research and develop new cooperation opportunities across the entire energy value chain in Vietnam.

Three priority areas include liquefied natural gas (LNG), renewable energy, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). According to TotalEnergies, this scope of cooperation aims to support Vietnam's development and energy transition goals.

While the agreement with PV GAS covers multiple sectors, the second memorandum of understanding with T&T Group focuses on the Long Son LNG-to-power plant project in the Ho Chi Minh City area. TotalEnergies and T&T Group will explore opportunities to develop the project. TotalEnergies will serve as the exclusive LNG supplier, while a joint venture between the two companies will participate in developing, constructing, and operating the power plant.

Stephane Michel, president of Gas, Renewables & Power at TotalEnergies, stated that the agreements demonstrate the shared commitment between the company and its stakeholders in Vietnam's energy sector to continue strengthening existing trust and cooperation. "With a presence in Vietnam for 35 years, particularly through our Marketing & Services activities and LPG supply business, we aim to contribute our expertise in LNG, renewable energy, and the gas-to-power value chain to support Vietnam's long-term growth and energy transition ambitions," said Stephane Michel.

TotalEnergies is a global multi-energy company that produces and markets energies: oil, biofuels, natural gas and green gas, renewables, and electricity. TotalEnergies' more than 100,000 employees are committed to providing energy that is reliable and affordable. Operating in approximately 120 countries, the company places sustainability at the heart of its strategy, projects, and operations.
