On 26/5, during the GSMA Digital Nation Summit Hanoi 2026, Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) announced it had achieved GSMA Open Gateway certification for its one-time password SMS (SMS OTP) service. This certification signifies a significant advancement in securing digital transactions and identity verification.

This international certification for the SMS OTP API service enables businesses to implement secure, stable, and scalable authentication solutions. Sectors such as finance, banking, e-commerce, and digital platforms have a high demand for this type of solution. VNPT's adherence to GSMA standards helps build an open API ecosystem, facilitating seamless interoperability among network operators worldwide.
For VNPT, this certification marks a strategic shift. The group is moving from providing authentication services based on domestic telecommunications infrastructure to offering API capabilities compliant with international standards. This allows businesses and digital platform developers to quickly integrate services and deploy them across various markets without technical barriers.
Nguyen Dang Thang, Director of VNPT FinTech Center, stated that achieving GSMA Open Gateway certification for the SMS OTP API service demonstrates the group's commitment to building a reliable digital infrastructure for the economy. He noted that this certification enhances the ability to provide secure digital services to users and enables partners to integrate authentication solutions according to global API standards.
Commenting on this development, Julian Gorman, Head of Asia-Pacific at GSMA, believes VNPT is a leader in promoting Open Gateway implementation in the region. He emphasized that certified APIs are crucial for building trust among stakeholders and fostering large-scale interoperability between network operators.
The GSMA Open Gateway Certification program is a rigorous validation system ensuring network operators comply with the CAMARA technical standards. The program's core objective is to create consistency among global telecommunications systems, enabling developers to easily launch services worldwide. By participating in this ecosystem, VNPT gains the opportunity to join a cross-border API network, expanding its service delivery capabilities on a unified platform.
This move follows last year's outcome when major network operators in Vietnam signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to join the GSMA Open Gateway initiative. The entities agreed to collaborate on building a standardized platform to combat online fraud and advance digital transformation. Currently, this initiative attracts over 300 mobile networks, representing over 80% of global mobile connections, creating a robust network connecting developers and network operators.
As a leading telecommunications group with modern digital infrastructure, VNPT continues to play a pivotal role in the national digital transformation program. The company is collaborating with the government to deploy critical data systems and technology platforms, contributing to Vietnam's deeper integration into the global technology landscape.
