Young people send luggage ahead to ease holiday travel

With the extended 30/4 - 1/5 holiday approaching, many individuals are opting to ship their belongings to their hometowns in advance, rather than carrying them, to ensure a more convenient journey.

This year, with Hung Kings' Commemoration Day (10th day of the 3rd lunar month) immediately preceding the 30/4 - 1/5 holiday and combining with weekends, many people can enjoy an extended break of up to nine days. The surge in inter-provincial travel demand has led many young individuals to send their belongings to their hometowns in advance, rather than carrying heavy luggage throughout their journeys.

Extended holidays typically bring significant travel pressure in urban centers. Traveling by bus, train, or plane during peak periods makes luggage a source of inconvenience. For longer trips, the volume of items increases, ranging from clothes and personal effects to gifts for family.

Minh Nhut from Ho Chi Minh City shared that he used to carry many items during long holidays, which was quite exhausting. Recently, he tried sending his clothes and some belongings home in advance, and now only carries a backpack when traveling, making the experience much lighter.

Nhan, a J&T Express shipper in Ho Chi Minh City, noted that the demand for sending personal items extends beyond gifts. Currently, many people are opting to send everyday necessities such as clothes, shoes, personal care products, or bulky items that are difficult to carry on long journeys.

This shift in consumer behavior has led to new expectations for delivery services, particularly among individual customers who do not use them regularly. In this context, digital platforms are emerging as essential "personal shipping assistants".

In early March, J&T Express introduced a dedicated shipping application for individual customers. Users can complete the entire process on their mobile phones, from creating an order and entering information to tracking their shipment's journey.

Thu Ha, an office worker in Hanoi, stated, "During long holidays, I often send my belongings home in advance to reduce the luggage I have to carry. Creating an order directly on my phone and having someone pick it up is very convenient; I don't need to visit a post office".

From a user experience perspective, transparency and control are crucial, especially during periods of high travel demand. Displaying costs clearly before order confirmation and providing real-time tracking capabilities help users feel more secure when sending their items. Additionally, the feature to centrally manage orders via phone number simplifies tracking and reduces the need to re-enter information, which is particularly useful when managing multiple concurrent shipments.

For users, sending items in advance reduces luggage burden and makes the travel experience lighter, eliminating worries about carrying or arranging belongings.

To encourage user adoption, J&T Express is currently running a promotional program for new customers. Those who download the app and register an account for the first time will receive a voucher worth 50,000 VND for shipping fees. The program runs until 30/4.

Amid heightened travel demand during the holiday season, sending belongings in advance offers a new approach to optimize luggage preparation and enhance the travel experience. According to a J&T Express representative, with the support of digital platforms, shipping items is gradually becoming a familiar part of homecoming plans, rather than an additional, separate step.
