First foreign university to open a branch in Vietnam

RMIT South Saigon becomes the first foreign higher education branch in Vietnam, under direct management of its 'parent university'.

The campus will be named RMIT TP HCM. This significant development was announced during the official visit to Australia by General Secretary and President To Lam, from 9-12/8. According to regulations, to establish a branch in Vietnam, universities must be among the top 500 globally for three consecutive years, possess a minimum investment capital of 500 ty dong, and meet other criteria. RMIT University, headquartered in Australia, is currently ranked 119th in the QS rankings.

Concurrently, the RMIT Ha Noi campus received a new investment certificate. This certificate allows it to triple its training capacity by constructing new facilities and launching new majors and programs.

Previously, both RMIT campuses operated as foreign-invested entities under RMIT University Vietnam Limited Liability Company. With the new license, RMIT TP HCM will now be directly managed by its 'parent university' in Australia. This change facilitates investment in facility expansion and the maintenance of international training and accreditation standards.

Professor Scott Thompson-Whiteside, General Director of RMIT University Vietnam, stated this is a significant step in RMIT's long-term commitment to Vietnam, better meeting student needs. RMIT University Vietnam was established over 25 years ago and has since awarded degrees to over 28.500 students. In 2024, the university's revenue was 223,5 million AUD, equivalent to approximately 3.800 ty dong.
