In 2026, the Ministry of Education and Training requires applicants to achieve a minimum of 15/30 points on the High School Graduation Examination (THPT) (three subjects in a combination or Mathematics, Literature, and one other subject), regardless of the admission method used.
However, for fields such as health, pedagogy, and law, admission requirements for many majors are higher, ranging from 1.5 to 4 points above the general standard. For example, for majors like Medicine, Odonto-Stomatology, Traditional Medicine, and Pharmacy, if applying via academic transcripts or competency assessment scores, applicants must demonstrate strong academic performance in 12th grade, combined with a total score of 20 from three THPT subjects, or a high school graduation exam score of 8.5/10 or higher.
Majors such as Pedagogy in Literature, Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry have similar requirements, but the total score for three THPT subjects must be at least 18/30.
If admission is based on THPT scores, the Ministry will determine the minimum threshold for application submission, announcing it after the examination. Last year, the minimum threshold for Medicine and Odonto-Stomatology was 20.5; for pedagogy majors, it was 18-19.
Additionally, requirements for training programs in microchip, semiconductor, and railway fields are also higher than the general standard.
Applicants should note these are minimum requirements. Universities may set higher thresholds. For instance, last year, the minimum score for admission applications at Hanoi Medical University was 22.5.
The list of fields with admission thresholds higher than 15 points is as follows:
