CWUR, a consulting organization headquartered in Saudi Arabia, has ranked universities since 2012. It stands as one of the world's largest ranking systems, alongside QS, Times Higher Education (THE) from the UK, and ARWU from China. This year, the organization evaluated over 21.200 higher education institutions before ranking 2.000 of them.
Four groups of criteria for ranking include: alumni academic and career achievements, faculty academic quality, and research performance. Research criteria account for 40% of the score, making it the most significant factor. Each remaining factor accounts for 10-25%.
CWUR independently collects its data. Research achievements are based on the number of published articles, articles in reputable journals, influence, and citations. For alumni, CWUR considers awards and roles in the world's 2.000 largest companies (based on assets, market value, revenue, and profit). Meanwhile, faculty quality is measured by awards and academic reputation.
In this year's THE Asia rankings, Vietnam has 11 representatives, an increase of two compared to last year, but most experienced drops in their rankings, led by University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City. Meanwhile, 13 Vietnamese universities are featured in the QS World University Rankings by Subject.
