Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) announced on 25/5 that the Ministry of Education and Training issued the appointment decision. This move aims to consolidate personnel for a new phase, aligning with Resolution 71 of the Politburo on breakthrough development in education and training.
Professor Le Anh Tuan, 51, from Ha Tinh, is an alumnus of HUST, having studied mechanical engineering. After graduating with honors, he remained as a lecturer at the School of Mechanical Engineering in 1997. He earned his doctoral degree from Graz University of Technology, Austria, in 2005 and was appointed professor in 2017.
At HUST, Tuan held various positions, including head of department, director of the Centralized Investment Laboratory, dean of the School of Mechanical Engineering, secretary of the university council, and both vice chairman and chairman of the university council. Currently, he serves as party secretary.

The new president of HUST is an influential scientist in mechanical engineering, automotive and autonomous vehicles, renewable energy, and alternative fuels. He has authored or co-authored 7 books, holds two intellectual property patents, and published over 150 articles in reputable journals. His H-Index is 32 on Google Scholar and 29 on Scopus.
Beyond his work at HUST, Professor Tuan is also a member of the Prime Minister's working group on science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation; vice chairman of the Interdisciplinary Professorial Council for Mechanical Engineering; a member of the Global Electric Vehicle Network (GEAN); and a member of the Hanoi City Fatherland Front Committee.
"The appointment of Professor Le Anh Tuan as president is expected to drive Hanoi University of Science and Technology's continued strong development, solidifying its position as a leading higher education institution in science and technology amidst autonomy and international integration," according to an HUST statement.
Established in 1956, HUST currently offers 65 undergraduate majors and 95 master's and doctoral programs. It serves approximately 38,000 students and collaborates with over 200 universities, scientific research centers, and educational organizations in more than 30 countries.
According to the QS and THE 2026 world university rankings, HUST is placed in the 1,201-1,400 and 1,501+ groups, respectively. The university's goal is to be among the top 100-150 technical universities in Asia by 2035, a direction approved by the Prime Minister.
