The Hanoi Department of Education and Training announced on the evening of 8/5 that 946 students have been granted direct admission to 10th grade public schools (mainstream program). This figure includes 106 students from ethnic boarding schools, 653 students with disabilities, 182 national award winners in culture, arts, sports, and science and technology, and 5 students from very small ethnic groups.
This year's number of directly admitted students represents a significant increase compared to last year's figure of nearly 700.
These directly admitted students must confirm their enrollment between 25/6 and 27/6, and submit their admission documents over three days, from 4/7 to 6/7. Students who choose not to utilize their direct admission opportunity must participate in the Department's entrance examination if they wish to attend a public school.
Hanoi expects approximately 147,000 students to graduate from junior high this year, with nearly 125,000 registering for the 10th grade public school entrance examination. With an admission quota of around 82,660 for 10th grade, only 56% of applicants are expected to be admitted to public schools.
Students will take exams in three subjects: mathematics, literature, and a foreign language, over two days, 30/5 and 31/5. Candidates applying to specialized schools will have an additional exam day on 1/6. The results and cut-off scores for 10th grade public schools in Hanoi are expected to be announced from 19/6 to 22/6.
The official competition ratio for 10th grade in Hanoi's 122 public schools for 2026 highlights the competitive landscape.
Similarly, the competition ratio for 10th grade in the four specialized schools is also closely watched.
