Over 320 specialized high school candidates in Tuyen Quang retake first subject

Many candidates arrived at Tuyen Quang specialized high school from 6 AM, facing strict document checks for entry and exit during an "unprecedented" second graduation exam prompted by fraud.

Over 320 students from Tuyen Quang specialized high school began retaking their high school graduation exam this morning, 14/8, after widespread fraud was discovered in the previous examination. The first subject on the schedule was Literature, a 120-minute test commencing at 7:35 AM.

Security measures at the exam site were notably stricter than those at typical graduation exam locations. Five police officers were stationed at the main gate, while 10 traffic police personnel managed and directed traffic flow. Only candidates and individuals holding official passes issued by the exam steering committee were granted entry.

Candidates started arriving at the school as early as 6 AM. Despite temperatures around 29 degrees Celsius and minimal wind, the atmosphere felt muggy. Yesterday afternoon, students completed the necessary procedures and were briefed on exam regulations.

According to the Ministry of Education and Training, 323 out of 328 registered candidates were present for the retake procedures yesterday. Of the five absent, two private candidates indicated they no longer wished to retake the exam for university admission. The remaining three, who were unavailable due to personal commitments, were expected to complete their registration before this morning's exam.

The decision for a retake followed the discovery of significant irregularities in the high school graduation exam held on 11-12/6, which involved over 1,2 million candidates nationwide. Specifically, at Tuyen Quang specialized high school, 299 out of 328 students achieved scores of 9 points or higher in Mathematics, an unusually high rate that was the highest in the country.

Initial investigations identified collusion between parents, candidates, and teachers. Due to the involvement of numerous individuals, the Ministry of Education and Training ordered this group of students to retake all subjects and excluded them from the initial university admission round.

To support the affected students, the Tuyen Quang Department of Education and Training instructed the school to contact each student and their family. The school was tasked with disseminating information, helping to stabilize their psychological state, and organizing review sessions. Students from distant areas or those facing difficult circumstances received assistance with accommodation and travel.

The province mobilized 175 individuals to help organize the retake. The invigilator team comprised individuals who had performed well or better in their previous duties and had not participated in the earlier exam at this school. Furthermore, the Ministry dispatched inspection teams from Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Hanoi Department of Education and Training, and other relevant units to oversee the process.
