Tran Diep Tuan has been appointed rector of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, a position he will hold until retirement. The Ministry of Health's appointment decision is effective from 1/7.
Born in 1967 in An Giang, Professor, Doctor of Philosophy Tran Diep Tuan is an alumnus of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, where he specialized in Pediatrics. His academic journey includes defending his doctoral thesis in reproductive, developmental, and aging sciences at the University of Tokyo, Japan, in 2003. He furthered his research, completing postdoctoral studies at the University of Michigan, US, in 2025, and was recognized as a professor in 2020.
Mr. Tuan's nearly 40-year career at the university has seen him occupy various leadership roles. He was appointed vice rector in 2008, and seven years later, he began his first tenure as rector. From 2020, he served as chairman of the university council before this current appointment.
Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy stands as the largest health sciences training institution in the Southern region. It serves approximately 15,000 students and employs 1,000 lecturers and researchers. The university's board of rectors also includes two vice rectors: Associate Professor, Doctor of Philosophy Vuong Thi Ngoc Lan and Associate Professor, Doctor of Philosophy Nguyen Van Chinh.
