They were among approximately 2,400 students from the university who received their diplomas between 29/11 and 6/12.
Four years ago, Ho Chi Minh City University of Science, part of Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, was the first institution nationwide to offer an artificial intelligence program, enrolling 42 students. In this cohort, 30 students completed the program, including three who graduated with excellent honors, 21 with good honors, and 6 with fair and average grades respectively.
This year's graduating class began university during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic. The university commended their efforts to adapt to online learning and their perseverance in completing the program on schedule.

According to associate professor Nguyen Van Vu, vice dean of the Faculty of Information Technology, the first artificial intelligence cohort attracted students with high entry standards from the computer science and information technology fields. They demonstrated strong analytical skills and abilities.
Most students from the program secured employment after graduation in roles such as: artificial intelligence engineers, software engineers, and data engineers. Many started working by the end of their third year.
"With the explosive growth of artificial intelligence, businesses have a high demand for artificial intelligence engineers, creating significant potential for subsequent cohorts", associate professor Vu said.
The valedictorian for the artificial intelligence program is Vo Thu Trang, who graduated with excellent honors, achieving a grade point average (GPA) of 9,42/10 and a TOEIC score of 820/990. Trang noted that while lacking older peers for guidance, they compensated by being more proactive in their studies and seeking out specialized materials.
While students in other majors typically select their specialization after their second year, Trang's cohort had a clear direction from the outset. The training program was updated with new knowledge reflecting the advancements in artificial intelligence.
"I always took detailed notes on the expanded and emphasized sections provided by the instructors during lectures. These practical examples helped me understand the lessons better and achieve high scores in exams", Trang shared.
Previously, in the North, 19 students from the University of Engineering and Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, graduated with an artificial intelligence degree in late june. This cohort enrolled in 2022; however, the university offered a special accelerated track for exceptionally capable students, reducing the training period from four years to 3-3,5 years.
