Nhat Phuong, a student from Xuchang High School in Hunan Province, has achieved an extraordinary feat by gaining admission to Tsinghua University, one of China's most prestigious institutions. She scored an impressive 694 out of 750 points on the Gaokao, the national college entrance examination, accomplishing this without ever attending supplementary classes.
Tsinghua University holds the 14th position globally in the QS university rankings. Annually, out of tens of millions of test-takers, only about 0,05% to 0,1% are admitted, typically requiring scores of 680 out of 750 or higher. Nhat Phuong's individual scores included 136 out of 150 for Literature, 135 out of 150 for Mathematics, 144 out of 150 for English, 86 out of 100 for Physics, and 96 out of 100 for Chemistry.
Nhat Phuong attributes her academic success to focusing solely on her schoolwork and homework, stating she never enrolled in any extra classes. Both her parents are university lecturers; they provided her with mathematics tutoring during elementary school and encouraged her to complete all school-assigned homework.
Her father emphasized the importance of developing good study habits. As Nhat Phuong entered high school, her parents prioritized her mental well-being, assuring her that admission to any university was sufficient, provided she made her best effort, rather than stressing entry into a top-tier institution.
Nhat Phuong outlined three key strategies for her studies: consistently summarizing and reviewing knowledge promptly; identifying a personal learning method that suited her; and maintaining a stable mindset, which she considers the most crucial and fundamental element.
Nhat Phuong chose to study Nuclear Engineering, driven by her belief in the necessity of transitioning current energy development and recognizing nuclear physics as a core field. Additionally, this major connects to the national defense industry, and she hopes to contribute to her country in the future.
Dong Canh Luong, Nhat Phuong's homeroom teacher, described her as a student with deep analytical abilities, persistence, a preference for independent thinking, and a determination to thoroughly understand every issue. He noted, "She always delves into every problem and completes all assignments with exceptional quality."
