On the evening of 28/3, Principal Nguyen Thanh Hau of Phu Hung A Primary School in Luong The Tran commune confirmed the temporary suspension of two third-grade teachers from classroom duties. They have been reassigned to office tasks after submitting their statements and undergoing a review.
The suspension follows an incident three days prior, where a parent at the school struck another student 10 times with a stick in the presence of teachers and family members. According to Principal Hau, the two teachers attempted to intervene but "did not anticipate such an escalation."
The incident stemmed from a previous conflict between two third-grade girls during playtime, which escalated into a physical altercation. One student's parent had reportedly "struck a deal" with the other student's grandmother, agreeing that if her child was hit again, she would retaliate with 10 strikes. This agreement was reportedly accepted. Many teachers and students witnessed the event, but the school administration was not informed in time to intervene.
The school reported that the student who was struck is in stable condition. The school has also instructed the involved parent not to repeat any acts of physical harm against students and to cooperate with the homeroom teacher to mediate and educate both students.
Yesterday, the Ca Mau Provincial People's Committee directed local authorities to verify the incident, clarify the responsibilities of all individuals involved, and address the matter according to regulations. The directive also called for a review of safety measures within schools.
Phu Hung A Primary School operates across two campuses, accommodating 23 classes and approximately 700 students each academic year.
