18-year-old actress stars in Shu Qi's film "Girl"

18-year-old actress Bai Xiaoying, the star of director Shu Qi's film "Girl", captivates audiences with her expressive eyes and breakthrough performance.

Shu Qi's directorial debut is competing for the Golden Lion, the top prize at the 2025 Venice Film Festival. The film was shot in Taiwan in 2024. Xiaoying stands next to Shu Qi (left) at the film's launch ceremony.

Bai Xiaoying plays Lin Xiaoli, a young woman who grows up in poverty and yearns to escape her difficult life. The film revolves around family relationships, dreams, and the harsh realities of life.

The actress, whose mother is Japanese and father is Taiwanese, has been acting since she was 10.

She won the Promising Newcomer Award for her role as He Jiating in "No Pets Allowed" at the 2020 Golden Bell Awards.
