According to Next Apple, on the evening of 2/2, the one-year anniversary of the actress's passing, DJ Koo posted a handwritten letter he wrote to his beloved wife, which read in part:
"To my eternal love, my everything. Barbie, are you alright? Are you cold or warm? I worry about you constantly. In the morning, in our empty room, I sit lost in thought on the edge of the bed. Even now, I cannot distinguish if this is reality or a dream. I wish this were just a dream, yet why does my chest ache so much? It's a deep pain.
I drag my heavy body out of bed. What should I cook today? I think of your favorite dish, then put it in a container and drive to your grave. The longing brings tears to my eyes. Forgive me for letting you see me so weak. But this is the only way I can soothe my longing; I hope you understand. Next time we meet, we will be together forever. I will always be your bald oppa."

The love story of DJ Koo and Barbie Hsu has been described by many viewers as more dramatic and intricate than a movie. They fell in love in the 1990s but separated due to the singer's management company's interference. According to Vogue, upon hearing of Barbie's divorce from Wang Xiao-fei in 2021, DJ Koo called the actress using the number he had saved 20 years earlier, overjoyed that she still used the same phone number. The two rekindled their romance and completed their marriage registration in early 2022, amidst the pandemic.
