Brad Pitt advises young actors against superhero franchise pressure

Brad Pitt believes the pressure on young actors to star in superhero franchises and blockbuster films to achieve fame is detrimental to their careers.

On the July 2nd episode of the "New Heights" podcast, Brad Pitt, alongside the Travis Kelce brothers (one of whom is Taylor Swift's boyfriend), offered advice to the younger generation. He suggested that young actors risk jeopardizing their careers by focusing solely on commercial films or superhero blockbusters. Pitt agreed with the host's assessment that these genres can be creatively draining for newcomers.

Pitt also expressed his interest in emerging talent and their contributions to cinema. He enjoys observing how young actors navigate the industry, negotiate deals, and handle their work. "I think they enjoy this profession more than we did," Pitt observed. "In the past, we were more tense, always acting with the mindset of 'don't sell yourself short,' 'don't sell your art short.' But now you think differently: 'We can create art in many different fields, so let's work and enjoy everything.'"

Throughout his career, Pitt has largely avoided superhero films and major franchises, with the exception of the "Ocean's" series alongside George Clooney and Matt Damon. His involvement in superhero films has been limited to cameos, such as his appearance in "Deadpool 2" (2018).

According to Variety, Pitt shares this perspective with Leonardo DiCaprio, his co-star in "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" (2019). DiCaprio reportedly advised Timothee Chalamet against taking on superhero roles. While Chalamet generally agreed, he noted he would consider such a role if the script and director were compelling, according to the New York Times.

However, Variety suggests Pitt might be open to franchise films due to the recent success of some of his projects. "F1," his latest starring role, has received critical acclaim and performed well commercially, with discussions underway for a sequel. Pitt is also expected to return for "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood 2." He won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in 2020 for his performance in the first film.

At 62, Brad Pitt remains a leading Hollywood actor. According to The Numbers, his films have grossed approximately USD 5 billion at the box office. He has won numerous prestigious awards, including Oscars, Golden Globes, and BAFTAs. Pitt has been married twice, to Jennifer Aniston (2000-2005) and Angelina Jolie (2014-2019), and is currently dating jewelry designer Ines de Ramon, who is 29 years his junior.
