BTS receives praise for World Cup performance

The group BTS was lauded by international media for their professional and energetic performance during the World Cup 2026 final halftime show.

BTS’s performance at the World Cup 2026 final halftime show on 19/7 garnered significant international media attention and praise. The show, a historic first for a World Cup final, saw the K-pop group’s "Dynamite" performance video accumulate 17 million views on YouTube within five days, surpassing the full program’s compilation video by three million views.

During their one and a half minute segment, the seven members captivated the stadium with their hit song "Dynamite". Music magazine Billboard noted the brevity of the performance did not make it feel rushed, praising the group’s professionalism and strong stage presence amidst a multi-artist lineup.

The National highlighted BTS’s showcase of K-pop’s characteristic strength: outstanding, highly precise choreography. Weverse magazine echoed this, assessing BTS’s segment as the most tightly choreographed of the show, thanks to the group’s synchronized dancing and seamless coordination with cameras.

Forbes explained "Dynamite" was a fitting choice for the event. The song’s lively melody, English lyrics, and positive message of joy and hope aligned well with a major sporting occasion. It marked the first time a Korean artist topped the Billboard Hot 100, cementing the group’s global phenomenon status and expanding their influence in the US market. "Dynamite" also broke numerous streaming records, earning BTS their first Grammy nomination in 2021 for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.

According to E! Online, BTS, alongside other performers such as Madonna, Shakira, and Justin Bieber, did not receive a performance fee. However, the appearance on the World Cup stage yielded substantial image benefits for the group, as reported by AP. The US news agency noted a 43% increase in "Dynamite" streams following the event compared to the period before.

On 23/7, the group released a vlog documenting their intense travel schedule to reach the event. After a concert in Paris, the members departed the venue around 11 p.m. on 18/7, heading directly to the airport. They used the travel time to apply face masks and skincare. The plane took off almost one hour later. By 8:10 a.m. on 19/7, BTS arrived at Metlife Stadium for the final rehearsal, coordinating their formation and choreography with the dancers.

By noon, the group completed their makeup and costume preparations. At 3 p.m., all seven members returned to the stadium. One hour later, BTS took the stage for their halftime show performance during the final match.

BTS, an acronym for Bangtan Sonyeondan, debuted in 2013 with seven members: RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook. Their music spans genres like hip-hop and R&B, often exploring social issues, inner struggles, romance, and self-love, resonating deeply with young audiences worldwide.

Industry experts recognize BTS as a key player in the entertainment industry, contributing billions of USD to the Korean economy. Their music releases consistently achieve global success, breaking sales and online streaming records. In recent years, BTS has become a favored act by European and American media, frequently appearing at major award ceremonies. Earlier this year, the group returned to the music scene with a new album and a global tour.
