Born in Osaka, Japan, Higashino Keigo graduated from the Department of Electrical Engineering at Osaka Prefecture University (now Osaka Metropolitan University). His literary career began during his high school and university years, when he often shared his manuscripts with friends. In 1985, Higashino Keigo won the 31st Edogawa Rampo Award for best mystery novel with his work "After School". In subsequent years, he received continuous nominations for numerous major Japanese literary awards. Keigo served as president of the Mystery Writers of Japan from 2009 to 2013.

According to Yomiuri Shimbun, the total domestic print run of Higashino's works exceeded 100 million copies. In South Korea, his book "The Miracles of the Namiya General Store" (2012) sold over one million copies.

In 9/2023, Higashino Keigo’s book "The Devotion of Suspect X" was adapted into the film "Jaane Jaan". One week after its release, the film became the most-watched foreign language film on Netflix, accumulating 8,1 million views.
