According to Japanese media, the new Doraemon film, titled Nobita's Steam Time Locomotive (a title translated by news sites from the original Japanese as Nobita's Steam Locomotive), is scheduled for release in Japan on 5/3/2027. There is currently no information regarding the film's release date in other countries.

The teaser, released on 15/9, shows Doraemon, Nobita, Shizuka, Suneo, and Jaian embarking on an adventure to 19th-century London, England. Dressed in Victorian attire, they travel via a time machine. The clip also reveals several notable details: a steam locomotive—a key item in the film—on glowing tracks, and a scene where Doraemon shouts, "The flow of time is changing" as various scenes rewind, hinting at an impending incident.

Japan Up reports that Rushio Moriyama directs the project, marking his debut as a feature film director. Previously, he had only produced several Doraemon television episodes since 2020. Makoto Ueda, a renowned Japanese screenwriter known for time-travel themes, wrote the entirely new story content.

The Doraemon manga first appeared in 1969, created by Fujiko F. Fujio, the joint pen name of artists Hiroshi Fujimoto and Motoo Abiko from 1954 to 1987. The story follows a robot cat born in the 22nd century who travels back to the 20th century to help Nobita, a clumsy elementary school student, escape awkward situations. Beyond daily tales, the friends embark on many thrilling adventures.

After more than 50 years, Doraemon maintains its appeal, with 250 million manga copies sold, ranking among the top 10 best-selling manga of all time. In 2008, the character was appointed as Japan's first anime cultural ambassador. In 2012, on the occasion of his "minus 100th" birthday (Doraemon's birth year is 2112), the robot cat became an official resident of Kawasaki city, where both creators lived and which serves as the story's setting.
