On the SiriusXM radio show on 20/3, Barry Keoghan, 34, an Irish actor and Oscar nominee, stated that he stopped using social media in 2024, but his life is still affected by negative comments.
According to Barry Keoghan, while many fans are kind, a segment of the audience is malicious. Being ridiculed made him withdrawn and reclusive, making him reluctant to go out.

This gradually impacted his artistic career, making the actor no longer want to appear on screen. Barry Keoghan admitted that retiring would disappoint fans, but he also worried that the comments could affect his son, Brando, four, in the future.
"It would be a shame if my little boy had to read all that when he grows up," he added. Brando is the son of Keoghan and his former girlfriend, Scottish dentist Alyson Sandro.
Although he claims to be detached from social media, he finds himself still curious about life. "If I attend an event or go somewhere, I still want to know how people perceive my presence. But things aren't pleasant when there's so much hatred online," the artist added.

This is not the first time Barry Keoghan has spoken out about malicious comments. On X in 12/2024, the artist called for respect after his breakup with singer Sabrina Carpenter. They had dated for about one year. In the post, he mentioned that many people insulted his roles, even bringing up his mother who passed away when Keoghan was 12. The actor also criticized individuals who knocked on his grandmother's door and sat outside where his son lives.
"I disabled my account because I couldn't let this affect my family. No one deserves to read the messages I received. It was all lies, hatred, many nasty remarks about my appearance, my roles, how I parent, and every other cruel thing you could imagine," his post read.
Barry Keoghan was born in 1992 in Dublin, Ireland. According to Variety, he is considered one of the country's most successful contemporary stars. The actor began his career with small roles in 2011. He also appeared in superhero films such as Eternals (2021) from the Marvel Universe and The Batman (2022).
