Emma Watson, known for her role as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter series, made a rare public appearance alongside Prince William at a London forum on 22/6. The Royal Foundation's United for Wildlife initiative organized the event, which was part of London Climate Action Week. Actor Benedict Cumberbatch also attended the program.
On stage, Watson, Cumberbatch, and Prince William engaged in a discussion about issues facing the natural world and humanity's shared responsibility in environmental protection. According to Telegraph, Watson highlighted the fashion industry's significant environmental impact, criticizing it for "generating more emissions than the aviation industry, making it the second-largest polluter after the oil industry". However, as a fashion enthusiast with ties to the industry, she expressed optimism that positive changes are achievable within the sector.
During the conversation, the 36-year-old actress shared a Harry Potter-era anecdote that unexpectedly tied into the event's theme. She recounted a day when she noticed several men with long lenses outside her residence. Initially believing they were paparazzi trying to photograph her, she tried to avoid them. To her surprise, she later discovered they were searching for a rare red kite in her backyard.
"Basically, they were trying to sneak into my backyard because they thought there was a red kite there", Watson added, recalling the amusing misunderstanding.

Watson's appearance at the event also garnered attention for her style. Instyle noted that her long, light brown hair evoked nostalgia, reminiscent of her look almost 20 years ago during the filming of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Half-Blood Prince. The magazine also praised her natural makeup for highlighting her facial features.
Later that day, the actress used her Instagram platform to share photos from the event and advocate for the protection of endangered species and the combatting of wildlife trafficking. The post quickly amassed over 300,000 likes and generated many comments, with fans expressing support and noting their anticipation for her return to public appearances or the screen.
