According to Next Apple, on 13/8, Yan and some of Hsu's close friends visited her gravesite in Taipei. The actor teared up as he expressed his grief. A friend comforted him, placing a hand on his shoulder.
The two actors starred together in the hit 2000s television drama "Meteor Garden". Hsu played Shan Cai, a resilient girl from a modest background whose parents scrimped and saved to send her to a prestigious school. On her first day, Shan Cai clashes with the F4 boys, including Dao Ming Si, played by Yan. This sparks a rivalry between her and the four young men.

While filming, the two actors initially clashed, but gradually came to understand and accept each other's personalities, becoming close friends. When Yan participated in the reality show "Call Me By Fire" in 2021, Hsu recorded a video message for him, saying, "Dao Ming Si, it's your Shan Cai. When we were filming, we used to bicker a lot. Back then, I thought you were really strange, like a mysterious child. Now, you've become a big brother, increasingly cheerful and charming. Shan Cai is always here to support you."

The 48-year-old Yan primarily works in television. He is private about his personal life and has not publicly dated anyone since his 2005 breakup with model Lin Chi-ling.
