Singer Juky San, 28, has drawn criticism after photos of her in a polka-dot swimsuit, posing in Gieng Tien, circulated online. Gieng Tien (Fairy Well), located in the Eo Gio area of Quy Nhon Dong ward, Gia Lai, is considered a sacred place in local folklore. The images, taken by her team during a recent trip, sparked outrage among some viewers who deemed them disrespectful to the local landscape and cultural values.

On 30/3, Juky San's representative announced that the team was reviewing and removing the controversial images from all digital platforms. Juky San stated that her team had not seen any signs indicating prohibited activities at the site, leading her to believe it was an ordinary natural setting. "I apologize for upsetting everyone. This is a valuable lesson in caution that I will take to heart, emphasizing the need to thoroughly research local history and beliefs," she said.

Tran Viet Quang, Chairman of the People's Committee of Quy Nhon Dong ward, confirmed that local authorities are verifying the incident. However, Quang noted that the locality has never issued a ban on swimming at Gieng Tien. He explained that there was previously a sign introducing the landmark's history, but it was swept away by a storm recently.

According to the introductory text on the former sign, legend holds that thousands of years ago, a rock crevice appeared at Gieng Tien, providing freshwater year-round. Local folklore regards this water as a gift from heaven and earth. The sign stated: "Because it is water bestowed by heaven and earth, elders also believed that drinking from the fairy well would grant children, bathing newborns in its water would bring blessings, and pregnant women drinking it would ensure a safe delivery. Sailors also took its water for smooth journeys."

Juky San, real name Tran Thi Dung, hails from Hung Yen (formerly Thai Binh). Her stage name is inspired by a Japanese anime character. She gained public attention on The Voice Vietnam 2019 with her clear voice and later gained popularity through projects featuring Vietnamese lyrics for Chinese songs such as Phuong Xa, Tieu Dao Tuyet Nhat, and the music video Phai Chang Em Da Yeu. Last year, the singer participated in Em Xinh Say Hi, reaching the finals. Earlier this year, Juky San released her debut album Dam Tinh, marking a milestone in her career.
