The announcement comes after weeks of speculation about their relationship. In late June, People magazine confirmed that Perry and Bloom had called off their engagement after six years, and after 10 years of dating. While neither addressed the news directly, their recent actions hinted at the breakup.

On June 30, Bloom posted a quote attributed to Buddha on his Instagram Story: "Every day is a new beginning. What we do today is what matters most." Some media outlets interpreted this as his desire for a "new beginning" after the split. On 2/7, he shared quotes by psychologist Carl Jung about sadness and loneliness.

A week earlier, Bloom and his daughter were in the same city where Perry was performing a concert, but the family did not appear together. A few days later, he attended billionaire Jeff Bezos' wedding in Venice alone. Perry was also invited but couldn't attend due to scheduling conflicts.

A source told People that the couple had been experiencing tension for months before their split. "Katy and Orlando have been going through a difficult period for a year. There was so much going on in their lives that it made it difficult to find time for each other and address their differences. When they couldn't communicate effectively, their relationship deteriorated."

Perry and Bloom began dating in 2016, briefly split in 2017, and reconciled in 2018. They planned to marry in June 2020 but postponed due to Covid-19. Their daughter, Daisy Dove Bloom, was born in August 2020. The couple has kept details about their daughter private, revealing only her name and a few photos where her face is not shown. In April, Daisy accompanied her father to support her mother's space flight.
