Liu Xiaoqing, "Empress Wu Zetian", sells calligraphy

Chinese actress Liu Xiaoqing sold the four-character phrase "Binh an hy lac" for 3,888 yuan (approximately 14,5 million VND).

According to Yahoo, near the Lunar New Year 2026, 76-year-old artist Liu Xiaoqing garnered attention by holding livestream sessions to sell her calligraphy. The character "Phuc" (meaning "blessing" or "good fortune") was priced at 1,088 yuan, while the phrase "Binh an hy lac" (meaning "peace, joy, and happiness") fetched 3,888 yuan. Liu Xiaoqing's staff confirmed that all sold pieces include her personal seal and are framed. Her livestream sessions frequently attract tens of thousands of viewers.

Some viewers commented on the high price of Liu Xiaoqing's calligraphy, while others believed buyers were primarily her fans, purchasing the pieces as keepsakes. Liu Xiaoqing conducted her livestreams by creating and selling the calligraphy on the spot. After three sessions, she earned over 500,000 yuan (nearly 1,9 billion VND). This follows a solo calligraphy exhibition she held in 2020, where a 16-character piece sold for over one million yuan (3,7 billion VND).

The artist remains active in the entertainment industry, regularly appearing in reality shows, short films, and advertisements. During a talk show on 2/2, Liu Xiaoqing stated that she does not concern herself with her age, despite others often mentioning it. "Being overly concerned with age is a sign of being outdated", she remarked. She maintains good health, does not diet, eats plenty of meat daily, and walks or runs for over one hour each morning. She is also not afraid to start over or try new fields.

Liu Xiaoqing has been acting for 50 years, renowned for her roles in "Wu Zetian", "The Burning of Epang Palace", "Phoenix Nirvana", "Little Flower", and "Hibiscus Town". At the height of her fame in 2002, she faced investigation for business violations and tax evasion, leading to 442 days in prison. Thanks to her acting talent, Liu Xiaoqing gradually regained her status as a leading actress after her release.

She has been married three times; her fourth husband is Wang Xiaoyu, a Chinese-American businessman. Over the past three years, the artist has faced divorce rumors, which she has not addressed. In 2024, a man claiming to be Liu Xiaoqing's boyfriend revealed chat logs and audio recordings of their alleged relationship. According to Sina, the artist calmly handled the situation, believing public opinion today is more tolerant of those whose private lives are exposed. She considered the incident "not a big deal" but criticized the act of distributing the audio files as "shameful and disgraceful".
