Tinh Lang, a member of the organizing committee, said he was impressed that over half of the applicants hold master's degrees, with some being lawyers and psychologists. Several contestants have large social media followings, with hundreds of thousands of followers.

Eligibility requirements stipulate that contestants must be ethnic Chinese women between the ages of 17 and 27.

The Miss Hong Kong pageant first began in the early 1970s and has launched the careers of many notable figures, including Truong Man Ngoc, Ly Gia Han, Vien Vinh Nghi, Quach Ai Minh, Chung So Hong, Quach Kha Doanh, Tu Tu San, and Ho Hanh Nhi.

Over the past 10 years, the quality of the competition has been criticized for declining, with winners lacking in standout beauty and few contestants making a significant mark in their careers. Last year's winner was model and singer Ni Nhac Lam.
