Teaser for the film "Tai" – expected to be released on 6/3. Video: Film crew provided
The film "Tai" introduces its main plot through a newly released teaser, showcasing Mai Tai Phen in the lead role as Tai, a man burdened by a complex past. The narrative begins with Tai receiving a threat from a stranger, who demands a large sum of money be paid within three days. As Tai manages to secure a significant amount, his mother, Ms. Phuc (Hanh Thuy), grows suspicious, fearing her son is involved in illegal activities.
The video further reveals several intense chase scenes, particularly during the climax, where Tai is pursued by authorities and must escape by driving a "vo lai" (a type of motorized canoe common in the Mekong Delta). Amidst his efforts, his mother is attacked by a group of individuals who demand the return of the money. Later scenes subtly hint at Tai's unwavering determination to earn money at any cost, driven by his desire to provide for his family. Singer My Tam makes a brief appearance at the end of the teaser, portraying a mysterious woman.

Mai Tai Phen had nurtured the idea for his debut feature film for many years. Initially, when he submitted the script to My Tam, the project's investor, she was not satisfied, feeling it lacked emotional depth. He stated he spent one year revising the story, shifting its focus to themes of romance, family, and action. During pre-production, he spent several days in the Mekong Delta to immerse himself in the local way of life. Visiting a fish market at 3 a.m., he was surprised by the bustling atmosphere and people working through the night. He observed and distilled these details, incorporating them into his work.
My Tam, 45 years old, graduated top of her class from the Conservatory of Music of TP HCM and began her singing career at 17. Beyond music, she has acted in several television dramas and films. In 4/2023, the singer released her debut documentary, "Nguoi Giu Thoi Gian" (The Keeper of Time), donating the box office proceeds to charity.
