Phuong My Chi's team shines in "Em xinh say hi"

Phuong My Chi, Phuong Ly, Phao, and Chi Xe captivated the audience with their performance of "He," a fusion of traditional Vietnamese opera and modern music.

The "He" performance.

Following team formation and song selection, the four teams advanced to Live Stage 2, which aired on the evening of 21/6. Each team split into smaller groups to perform two pieces, with scores accumulating across performances. Members of the highest-scoring team will advance to the next round. The six lowest-scoring individuals from the remaining three teams will be eliminated.

In the first round, Phuong My Chi and her teammates opened with "He" (composed by Hoang Thong), creating a strong stage presence.

As team leader, Phuong My Chi admitted feeling the pressure to capture the song's spirit while modernizing the traditional music in a fitting way. She contributed to composing a new segment about *tuong*, drawing on research and guidance from established artists.

The team members expressed confidence in Phuong My Chi's expertise and experience. Their seamless performance resonated with the audience, earning praise from MC Tran Thanh, who called it "explosive."

The performers wore vibrant, embellished costumes, adorned with accessories and artistic masks. DTAP arranged the music, culminating in an electronic crescendo. Rap and choreography added further dynamism.

"When I received the song, I immediately thought of incorporating *tuong* (Vietnamese opera) onto the stage, hoping to introduce this traditional art form to younger audiences," Phuong My Chi said.

Rapper Phao was praised for her transformation in the performance.

Chi Xe jokingly expressed her delight in performing music with traditional influences. She contributed additional lyrics to the song in two hours, earning her teammates' enthusiastic approval.

Guest performer Wean Le portrayed a disloyal clown in love. Lifted by dancers, he executed impactful choreography.

Phuong Ly described the initial brainstorming as challenging but ultimately a welcome endeavor. She dedicated considerable time to rehearsing for her first foray into *tuong*.

They consulted *tuong* artist Ngoc Khanh and participated in online singing sessions with members of the Vietnam *Tuong* Theater to ensure authenticity in their singing, pronunciation, breathing techniques, and movements.

A rap exchange between Wean Le and Phao further enhanced the performance, their dramatic and entertaining lyrics adding another layer to the act.

"He" was among the two top-voted performances, giving Phuong My Chi's team an advantage. In the second round, airing on 28/6, the remaining members—Bao Anh, Liu Grace, Anh Sang AZA, and guest performer Negav—will perform "Perfect" (composed by Saabirose).

The show "Em xinh say hi," aiming to "discover the next generation of Vietnamese female idols," premiered in late May and is scheduled to conclude in August with 14 episodes. On the evening of 21/6, organizers announced their first concert for September.

30 contestants are divided into teams, competing through group performances and facing gradual elimination. Music director JustaTee (nickname Jessica Thanh Tu) and a team of over 20 producers and composers are responsible for the contestants' new songs. The program is produced by the same team behind the successful "Anh trai say hi" show in mid-2024.
