Shakira: 'my life has no room for romance'

Shakira prioritizes her children and career over relationships after betrayal by footballer Pique, enjoying single life with many achievements.

On 22/5, The Times published an interview with Shakira on the occasion of her releasing "Dai Dai", a song for the World Cup. She launched the music video on 23/5, more than one week after announcing the track. The singer invited many famous players such as Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, Luis Diaz, and Erling Haaland to participate in the project.

During the conversation, the reporter asked if Shakira would find new love on a film set again, hinting at how she and her ex-partner, former Spanish footballer Gerard Pique, first met on the set of the "Waka Waka" music video in 2010. The 49-year-old singer stated she is not dating. "my life has no time or room for romance. my schedule is quite packed".

According to Shakira, her children and career are her top priorities. "I am more in love with my career than ever before. I am also enjoying my single life", she added.

The singer currently lives with her two sons, Milan, 13, and Sasha, 11, in Miami, US. Both are her children with Gerard Pique. The couple publicly dated from 2011, separating in 2022 after Spanish media reported the footballer's infidelity. After Pique, she was rumored to be dating several people, such as F1 driver Lewis Hamilton and British actor Lucien Laviscount, but she has not confirmed any relationships.

Speaking to the news outlet, Shakira called four years ago "the darkest time" as she witnessed her family fall apart. At the same time, her father, over 90 years old, was hospitalized due to a severe fall. He had the accident after traveling to Barcelona—where Shakira lived at the time—to comfort his daughter, who was experiencing relationship problems. Facing continuous difficulties, Shakira healed through music, viewing songwriting as a form of emotional release. In 2024, she released the album "Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran" (Women no longer cry), inspired by emotional pain, winning the award for Best Latin Album at the Grammy Awards 2025.

Over the past year, Shakira has kept herself busy. In 2/2025, she began an international tour named after her new album, generating 421,6 million USD in revenue by 1/2026. According to Billboard, Guinness confirmed "Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran" as the most successful concert series ever organized by a Latin artist. In the same year, the singer voiced the pop star gazelle Gazelle in the animated film "Zootopia 2". She previously played this character in the first part in 2016. She is also familiar with many world magazines and participates in US talk shows. In 5/2026, she featured in the song "Eurosummer" by Zara Larsson.

In addition to her artistic activities, Shakira actively engages in charity work. According to Time, the Colombian singer supports education in her homeland through the Barefoot Foundation, which she established in 1997. On Instagram in 9/2025, Shakira announced that her organization completed building a school in Tibu, a war-torn area in Colombia. "Children here can begin a new chapter of their lives", she wrote.

Shakira is scheduled to perform during the halftime show of the World Cup final in the US on 19/7, continuing the next leg of her North American concert series in 6 and 7/2026. The artist will conclude her tour with 12 concerts at her namesake stadium in Madrid in 9 and 10/2026.

"I have been through a lot of suffering, but it has made me wiser, or at least stronger in unexpected ways. People often say that what does not kill you makes you stronger, and that is true", she told The Times. Additionally, she expressed gratitude to friends like Coldplay frontman Chris Martin and singer Adele, who helped her through difficult times. She also mentioned her 11-year relationship with Pique, stating she is grateful to her ex for helping her become the mother she is today.

In 4/2026, Shakira had an interview with Spanish television station RTVE, once again referring to "the darkest time". She said she now views past difficulties as a joke, making light of them herself. "No one can avoid suffering, but you need to laugh at it before life laughs at you", she stated.

Shakira, born in 1977, is a renowned Colombian singer. She is known as the "Queen of Latin Music" for her fiery and energetic dances. She is also recognized as the "Queen of World Cup Music" for her many popular anthems for the tournaments. Throughout her career, Shakira has won numerous prestigious music awards, and many of her songs have set Guinness records.
