According to Vogue, the rise of natural and "clean girl" makeup styles has led to the emergence of the ghost lash trend. Since the beginning of May, the keyword "ghost lash" has garnered hundreds of thousands of searches on TikTok. This beauty trend emphasizes a subtle look, applying mascara almost invisibly, resulting in naturally curled and lengthened lashes without feeling heavy.
This trend was showcased on the Spring/Summer 2025 runways of Hermes, Saint Laurent, Acne Studios, and Isabel Marant. Celebrities like Sofia Richie, FKA Twigs, Vittoria Ceretti, and Lorde then adopted the style, boosting its popularity and inspiring many to follow suit. Vogue suggests the trend's popularity stems from its simplicity and suitability for hot summer weather.
Renowned makeup artist Nydia Figueroa told Vogue, "This clean lash look makes the face appear elegant and light, not heavy. It provides a fresh look effortlessly."

To achieve this look, you'll need a specialized mascara with a clear gel formula instead of traditional colors like black, brown, purple, or blue. These mascaras are typically enriched with nourishing ingredients, provide a lifting effect, and can also be used on eyebrows. Because of its "no-makeup makeup" nature, it can be worn daily for a radiant look without being noticeable. However, these mascaras don't create a lengthening effect, so they may not be suitable for those with short lashes.
