On 27/11/2024, a 9th-grade student died from a stroke after collapsing during a physical education class, according to Nguyen Minh Lam, principal of Quang Xuan Secondary School in Quang Trach commune. The incident occurred at 2:30 PM yesterday, 26/11/2024, during a short-distance running session. The student ran 60-70 meters, showed signs of fatigue, began walking, and then suddenly fainted. Teachers immediately took her to the communal health station before transferring her to Bac Quang Tri Regional General Hospital, where she later died. Doctors confirmed a stroke as the cause of death.
Stroke manifests in two primary forms: ischemic stroke and hemorrhagic stroke. While traditionally associated with older adults, the condition is increasingly affecting younger individuals, with cases reported in children as young as 12 or 13. Notably, approximately 80% of stroke patients experience no warning symptoms.
Medical professionals urge parents to monitor their children's health closely. Should children exhibit unusual symptoms such as: dizziness, severe headaches, vomiting, disorientation, uncharacteristic sluggishness, seizures, or one-sided limb weakness, prompt medical attention is crucial for accurate diagnosis and effective treatment.
The Ministry of Education and Training stipulates that students with chronic illnesses, disabilities, injuries, or those undergoing medical treatment are exempt from the practical components of physical education and national defense and security education. To qualify for this exemption, students must submit a medical record or certificate issued by a district-level hospital or higher, along with a formal request to the school.
