Following examination and diagnostic tests, doctors identified a discontinuity in the corpus cavernosum structure and severe surrounding soft tissue edema. The patient was diagnosed with a penile fracture (rupture of the tunica albuginea of the corpus cavernosum) and scheduled for emergency surgery to prevent complications.
The surgery lasted approximately one hour. The surgical team dissected the injured area, removed the hematoma, cleaned the wound, and repaired the tunica albuginea of the corpus cavernosum using specialized sutures. The injury, measuring approximately 2x3 cm, was identified on the right corpus cavernosum.
Post-surgery, the patient is conscious, vital signs are stable, and pain has significantly reduced. The patient is currently being monitored in the Surgery Department and is expected to be discharged in the coming days.
Doctor Ta Huu Nghia, a specialist II and deputy head of the Surgery – Inter-specialty Department, stated that penile fracture is a urological emergency, typically resulting from accidents during sexual intercourse or self-manipulation. Patients should seek medical attention immediately upon noticing any unusual symptoms and avoid self-treatment. Delayed treatment can lead to complications such as extensive hematoma, penile deformity, necrosis, and long-term impairment of physiological function.
