According to Doctor Le Thi Thuy Hang from Hospital of Medicine and Pharmacy, Ho Chi Minh City - Campus 3, adhering to the following principles is crucial for personal safety and the well-being of others when consuming alcohol:
Drink in moderation
Know your limits and avoid overconsumption. Limit the amount of alcohol consumed in one sitting. Men should not drink more than two standard drinks per day, while women and lighter individuals should limit themselves to one standard drink per day.
One standard drink contains 14 g of pure alcohol, equivalent to 354 ml of 5% beer, 150 ml of 12% wine, or 45 ml of 40% spirits. It is advisable to space out drinking sessions to allow the body sufficient time to process the alcohol.

Eat a full meal before drinking
Consume protein-rich foods such as meat, fish, or fried dishes to slow down alcohol absorption.
Drink slowly and steadily
When drinking alcohol, take small sips rather than consuming it quickly. Avoid mixing various types of alcoholic beverages to prevent overwhelming your body.
Do not drink alcohol while on medication
Alcohol can interact with many medications, leading to dangerous side effects. Medications should only be taken with plain water, and at least two hours before or after consuming alcohol.
If you have consumed alcohol, use public transportation or arrange for someone else to drive you home.
Drink plenty of water and fruit juice
The benefit of drinking plenty of plain water or fruit juice is that it helps reduce the alcohol concentration in your body.
Avoid peer pressure to drink
Politely decline if you do not wish to drink or have had enough.
Ensure the quality of alcohol consumed
During holidays and Tet, alcohol consumption increases, often leading to counterfeit products on the market. Therefore, carefully inspect products before consumption, and avoid unlabeled alcohol, those with unclear origins, or those containing methanol or other dangerous chemicals.
Seek help if you feel unwell
If you experience fatigue, dizziness, nausea, signs of poisoning, or any unusual symptoms, seek immediate medical assistance. Maintaining good health is the best way to fully enjoy time with family and friends.
