Male student suffers myocardial infarction from overexcitement while giving a ride to class beauty

An 18-year-old male student was rushed to the hospital with a myocardial infarction after a night of staying up late, drinking alcohol, and becoming overly emotional while giving a ride to his class's beauty queen.

Cardiologist Thai Tung An shared a rare emergency case on Taiwan's television program, "Doctors Are Hot". As reported by Mirror Media on 22/2, this 18-year-old male student was experiencing nightlife for the first time, having recently moved away from his family's strict supervision. However, a bike ride down Yangming Mountain turned into a medical emergency when he suddenly developed severe chest pain.

The patient, a freshman from Taichung, had previously lived under strict parental control with a regulated daily schedule. Upon entering university in Taipei and moving into a dormitory, he began to enjoy a newfound sense of freedom. Taking advantage of a free morning, he joined friends for a night of entertainment, including karaoke, admiring night views, and late-night dining.

The incident occurred at midnight while descending the mountain. The student felt severe chest tightness and discomfort. However, having won a draw to give the class beauty queen a ride, he endured the pain. When the group stopped for breakfast, his face was visibly pale, prompting friends to rush him to the emergency room. An electrocardiogram revealed an acute myocardial infarction with completely blocked blood vessels.

Doctor Thai, who received the patient, was surprised by the student's young age of 18 and lack of prior history of high blood pressure, high blood sugar, or high cholesterol. After reviewing his medical history, the doctor concluded that the student, accustomed to a regulated lifestyle, experienced an overstimulation of his sympathetic nervous system due to the sudden late night, alcohol consumption, and intense excitement from giving the beauty queen a ride.

"This triggered vasospasm, a phenomenon similar to a blood vessel 'cramp'", Doctor Thai explained.

Following treatment with high-dose Nitroglycerin, the patient's condition improved, and his complexion gradually returned to normal. Doctor Thai warned that if vasospasm is not treated promptly, it can lead to arrhythmia or even sudden death.
