White couple who gave birth to a baby of color finds child's biological parents

Florida couple Tiffany Score and Steven Mills have announced they found the biological parents of their daughter, following an embryo mix-up at the Orlando Fertility Center in April 2025.

Through their lawyer, Jack Scarola, the couple confirmed that the latest DNA test results identified the girl's genetic parents. Score and Mills shared that they feel a moral obligation to find their daughter's original family, despite their constant fear of having to hand over the child. However, Scarola stated that the biological parents have not yet requested custody of the child.

The incident dates back to 2020 when the couple deposited three healthy embryos at the Orlando Fertility Center in Longwood. In April 2025, the medical facility and the treating doctor made an error, implanting another patient's embryo into Score's uterus.

On December 11, 2025, Score gave birth to a baby girl, Shea. The couple quickly noticed an anomaly: both parents are white, but their daughter displayed characteristics of a different race. Subsequent DNA tests confirmed the child was not biologically related to them.

Finding the child's biological parents concludes a heartbreaking journey but opens new legal and emotional complexities for the couple. Their primary concern is the whereabouts of their own embryos, wondering if they were destroyed or implanted into another person. Despite this, the bond between Score, Mills, and baby Shea remains profound.

"Only one thing has been certain since her birth and will continue to be: We will always be her parents, and we will always love her completely", Score shared.

Lawyer Scarola is continuing legal proceedings, focusing on demanding compensation from the fertility center for incurred costs and the emotional distress his clients have endured. The family hopes the lawsuit will help alleviate their burden, allowing them to fully focus on caring for baby Shea.

The Orlando Fertility Center has not yet responded to the incident. Earlier this month, the facility closed its doors, with a new clinic taking over the premises.
