According to Red Star News on 5/1/2026, Sheng, the child's father, filed a complaint with the local Health Commission, seeking a medical error assessment for the on-duty team at Xuytai County People's Hospital. The hospital proposed negotiating compensation once the child fully recovers, but the family demands immediate accountability for the professional misconduct. The baby boy's health is now stable, and he is recovering after finger reattachment surgery.

The rare medical incident occurred on the morning of 25/12/2025. Sheng's wife underwent a C-section at 10:30, but it was not until 12:00 that day that doctors informed the family of the incident. The midwife explained that the baby boy "suddenly moved" during the umbilical cord cutting, causing her to make an error and accidentally sever his left middle finger.
Immediately after the incident, Xuytai County People's Hospital arranged an ambulance to transfer the infant to a higher-level facility. After two hospital transfers, the baby boy arrived at Wuxi No. 9 People's Hospital with his finger incompletely severed. Doctors there successfully reattached the injured digit.
A representative from the local health authority confirmed that Xuytai Hospital is coordinating treatment and has covered all initial medical expenses. "No one wishes for such an incident to occur," the representative stated.
From the family's side, Sheng expressed his frustration that a major medical facility would allow such a basic error. "I cannot understand why they would cut the child's finger while cutting the umbilical cord," the father stated.
