A 66-year-old man was admitted to Da Nang Hospital in critical condition, suffering from acute blood loss and a coma. Doctors quickly determined that his cancerous liver tumor had ruptured, causing a massive hemorrhage into his abdominal cavity. Recognizing the immediate threat to his life, Da Nang Hospital activated a hospital-wide "red alert" protocol, mobilizing multiple medical teams to simultaneously resuscitate the patient and rush him to emergency surgery.

Senior specialist Tran Van Nghia from the Gastrointestinal Surgery department, along with the Anesthesiology and Resuscitation department team, spent 3 hours performing surgery to remove the tumor and control the bleeding.
"The main challenge of the surgery was the tumor's location in subsegment 1, which had ruptured and was bleeding profusely," Doctor Nghia stated. He emphasized that the top priority was to quickly control the bleeding to save the patient's life.
Post-surgery, the patient developed acute kidney failure and faced complications from hemodynamic instability due to the acute blood loss and prolonged shock. He underwent continuous dialysis to manage this condition.
According to Doctor Huynh Duc Phat, a senior specialist and head of the Anesthesiology and Resuscitation department, the medical team collaborated closely with the Gastrointestinal Surgery department. Their efforts focused on managing coagulation and hemodynamics, preventing vascular leakage, and supporting the patient's kidney function recovery.
By 12/10, the patient's health had recovered, and his kidney function returned to normal.
Doctor Nghia advised that liver tumors often develop silently. When these tumors grow large, they risk rupturing, causing hemorrhage and threatening life at any moment. He urged people, especially those with a history of liver disease, to undergo regular health check-ups for screening, early detection, and timely treatment.
