In its recall notice, Nestle Vietnam stated it is "voluntarily and proactively conducting a precautionary recall" of 17 NAN milk batches with specific lot numbers and expiration dates. The company did not specify the exact quantity of products being recalled but emphasized that these products were imported by Nestle Vietnam.
In the Vietnamese market, NAN milk is imported from various sources, including official channels through multiple import companies, as well as "hand-carried" goods or products of unclear origin.

Other milk products with different lot numbers, including NAN OptiproPlus (steps 3 and 4), NAN SupremePro (three steps), S-26 Ultima (three steps), PreNAN, NAN ExpertPro Lactose free & ExpertPro Total Comfort, Nutren Junior, Peptamen Junior, and other products distributed by the company but not on the recall list, "remain quality-assured" and "safe for consumption", according to the notice.
The recall stems from Nestle's routine raw material review, which identified a potential quality issue with a raw material (PUFA oil) from a third-party supplier. This raw material was found to potentially contain trace amounts of Cereulide, a toxin produced by Bacillus cereus bacteria, used in some infant formula products manufactured in Europe.
Although the amount of oil used in these products is small, and there is currently no evidence of Cereulide in the affected batches, the company initiated a voluntary recall of potentially impacted lots as a precautionary measure, adhering to the principle of maximum caution.
Previously, on the afternoon of january 7, Vietnam's Ministry of Health requested units to cease trading and remove information about Nestle Beba and Alfamino milk batches suspected of containing bacterial toxins. The Food Safety Authority sent an urgent official letter to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, requesting a review and strict handling of cases involving the sale of these products on e-commerce platforms. The regulatory agency also urged Nestle Vietnam to promptly inspect and report on the import situation and propose handling solutions before 10/1/2026. Responding on the same afternoon, Nestle Vietnam confirmed it had not imported the product batches listed in the European recall. The company emphasized it had never registered, announced, or traded the Beba and Alfamino brands through any distribution channel in the domestic market.
Two days prior, the Nestle group announced a recall of multiple batches of infant formula in 25 countries due to suspected Cereulide contamination. The campaign began on a small scale in december 2025 and officially expanded this month after the company completed necessary safety tests. The company is currently expanding the recall to over 50 countries. This action follows Nestle's detection of Cereulide, a toxin produced by Bacillus cereus bacteria, in raw materials from a supplier. The company immediately tested arachidonic acid (ARA) oil and corresponding oil mixtures used to produce at-risk nutritional product batches.
This recall campaign includes both infant formula and follow-on formula. The list of affected countries spans continents, including Argentina, Australia, Brazil, China, France, Russia, Spain, Saudi Arabia, and South Africa.
