The total number of reported suspected food poisoning cases has increased by 35 since 20/5. A representative from Sa Dec ward people's committee stated that the six adults showing symptoms are family members of the school's teachers. They consumed leftover cake from the students' semi-boarding meal, which teachers had taken home, before experiencing unusual symptoms.
As of this morning, 60 individuals have stable health. However, two people, one student and one adult, remain in severe condition. These two severe cases are receiving treatment in the intensive care unit and pediatric ward, according to the ward people's committee report.
Initial diagnosis for the patients is suspected food poisoning. All affected individuals shared semi-boarding meals at Kim Dong school on 18/5. The menu for that day included white rice, pork shumai, sweet mustard green soup with shrimp, water spinach, banana, and cream puff for the afternoon snack.
Authorities have collected food samples from the semi-boarding meals on 18/5 and 19/5, which are suspected of causing the poisoning. Additionally, 13 patient samples were sent for testing to determine the cause. Test results are not yet available.
The meals are provided by an external contractor, with whom the school has a service agreement. This contractor exclusively provides meals to Kim Dong school. Ward leaders have requested the school suspend the semi-boarding meal service pending the investigation's conclusion.
