A scientific conference, "Updating knowledge on intrauterine devices with new generation silver core technology," took place in early July in Ho Chi Minh City. The event, held both in-person and online, was organized by DKT International in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh City Obstetrics and Gynecology Association (HOGA) and chaired by Associate Professor Doctor Vu Thi Nhung, President of HOGA.

At the conference, Doctor Ngo Thi Yen, former Head of the Family Planning Department at Tu Du Hospital, reviewed the development of intrauterine devices (IUDs), a highly effective and widely used contraceptive method. She noted that after over a century of development and numerous improvements, IUDs have been refined to meet three objectives: enhancing contraceptive efficacy, increasing safety, and improving tolerability, thereby expanding options in reproductive health care.
Distinguished People's Physician, Associate Professor Doctor Huynh Nguyen Khanh Trang, Head of the Obstetrics Department at Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine, stated that the demand for safe, effective contraception is rising, while unintended pregnancies remain a concern. He highlighted new generation silver core technology as a notable improvement in IUDs.
The silver core structure enhances the durability and stability of the copper wire, reducing the risk of breakage during use and contributing to long-term contraceptive effectiveness. Experts believe that the trend towards using IUDs with silver core technology reflects a significant demand for safe, effective family planning solutions tailored to individual women.

From a practical perspective, Doctor Huynh Xuan Nghiem, Deputy Director of Hung Vuong Hospital, shared principles for managing complications during IUD insertion. He emphasized the importance of screening, assessment, and pre-procedure counseling. He explained that standardizing procedures, from initial assessment and patient stabilization to deciding whether to retain, remove, or refer the device, helps medical staff identify complications early, manage them promptly, and improve safety.
The final discussion session featured numerous questions from clinical practice. Experts and medical teams exchanged experiences, updated knowledge, and shared applicable solutions for clinical practice.
According to the organizers, the conference contributed to enhancing the professional capacity of medical staff and reaffirmed DKT International's commitment to collaborating with specialized associations to update new advancements in family planning and reproductive health.
