Around 4h on 2/8, a powerful explosion ripped through a 40 m2 ground-floor house located in an alley on Ha Huy Giap street, An Phu Dong ward, TP HCM. The force of the blast blew off the house's corrugated iron roof, caused a section of its wall to collapse, and scattered bricks, stones, and belongings widely. Two adjacent houses also suffered damage, including warped roofs.

At the time of the explosion, only the two residents, a grandmother and her grandson, were inside. They managed to run out, crying for help with numerous burns, and neighbors quickly transported them to Military Hospital 175 for emergency treatment.

On 3/8, representatives from Military Hospital 175 confirmed that the two victims arrived about one hour after the explosion, in a state of panic with extensive burns across their bodies. Doctors immediately initiated resuscitation, fluid replacement, and pain management, stabilizing their condition.

The 73-year-old woman sustained severe burns covering 85% of her body, with a very serious prognosis. Doctors warned of significant risks, including infection and exhaustion. Her 30-year-old grandson suffered burns across approximately 40% of his body. His health is currently stable, and he remains under observation and treatment.

Initial investigations revealed that a gas leak from the household gas tank's hose caused gas to accumulate inside the house. The explosion was triggered when the homeowner switched on a water pump, generating an electric spark.
