On 21/4, Dr. Nguyen Luu Hoang Hung, a lead surgeon at TP HCM Orthopedic Hospital, stated that doctors had to act as makeshift mechanics, dismantling each part of the machine to free the patient's hand. They made every effort to save any viable parts.
However, the crushing injury was too severe, causing complete damage from the index finger to the little finger, extending down to the metacarpal bones. Due to the irreparable damage, the surgical team was forced to amputate and close the stumps of four fingers at the metacarpophalangeal joints, managing to save only the thumb.
The patient recounted that she was working at Binh Dien market when she unexpectedly lost focus, causing the meat grinder to pull in her glove and subsequently her entire right hand. "I have been working with meat grinders for the past 21 years, since I was just 14 years old, but one minute of distraction led to this horrific accident," the patient said.

Dr. Vo Hoa Khanh, Deputy Director of TP HCM Orthopedic Hospital, issued a warning to workers who directly operate industrial machinery, presses, and grinders, urging them to strictly adhere to labor safety regulations. He emphasized the importance of maintaining absolute focus while working, cautioning against complacency or carelessness, even with extensive experience.
