He was detected when checking into a campsite on the outskirts of Milan, thanks to an automatic alert system from the accommodation's reception desk.
According to authorities, the man was taken to San Vittore prison in central Milan to serve an 11-month and 7-day sentence.
He was arrested before he could watch the Slovakian ice hockey team play their opening match at the Santagiulia Arena in Milan. Slovakia defeated Finland 4-1.
